Alice Glasgow 1927-2021

Posted

Alice E. Glasgow died peacefully on June 16, 2021. She donated her body to the UW medical school program.

Gorgeous Queen Alice was a lifelong learner, reader, and lover of music in all forms. She was sharp and funny until the end. Mom made many friends and was always interested in people's lives, stories and cultures. She taught music and then fourth grade in the Edmonds School District for many years. She introduced African drumming and music as well as music from many other countries to her classrooms in the 1960s, long before many music teachers were doing this.

She was immensely proud of her children, the grands, and the greats. She's survived by her children, Eilene, James, Stephen (Michele), and Gina Glasgow Wills (Greg); six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Her deeply-loved husband, Robert (Bob), a musician, conductor, and also a teacher in ESD, preceded her to the great band in the sky in 1999.

If you wish to make a memorial donation, please consider any fund for education of young people. A small family celebration of her life was held in August, and we held an "a-wake" the year before, with her in attendance, where all her favorite songs were played, including one she wrote about dying with purple toenails and finally getting enough sleep!

Wear something purple in her memory, and sing!
