Fire chief urges vaccinations; up to 60 firefighters could lose jobs

Firefighters, EMTs and paramedics serving Edmonds need to get vaccinated by Oct. 18 or risk losing their jobs.

Gov. Jay Inslee's mandate that state workers, educational employees and health-care providers be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus is strongly opposed by the Washington State Council of Firefighters and IAFF Local 1828.

The union represents more than 290 firefighters and EMTs at 14 southwest Snohomish County fire stations. That includes South County Fire and Rescue, which contracts with the city of Edmonds and has fire stations in downtown Edmonds, the Maplewood neighborhood...
