Pandemic, staffing levels hinder enforcement of 2½-year-old ban

What kind of straws are you seeing at Edmonds restaurants these days? If you sip out of the traditional plastic, single-use type that clogs landfills, you should know that they are banned.

But – no surprise – the pandemic has interfered with the ban, as well as enforcement.

On Jan. 1, 2019, it became illegal in the city of Edmonds for any restaurant, café, grocery store, coffee shop, cafeteria, or other food service business to sell or provide for consumption – on or off premises – food and beverage items in single-use plastic containers.
