Henry Draper

Henry Draper took this shot of a male Anna's Hummingbird from his bedroom window looking out into a cherry tree.

"If you look very closely," he said, "you can see his extended tongue. It is almost camouflaged by the branch in the background."

Henry sent the picture to a birder friend, who came back with this: "These birds extend that tongue into sugar-water feeders and into flowers all the time. I guess he is practicing? These are great shots of a new, fledgling male, growing into his new feathers."
