Council rejects mayor's bid for emergency powers

Mayor Mike Nelson's attempt to secure an emergency ordinance – one that would provide him temporary authority to use tools to address the economic emergency brought by the pandemic – failed for lack of a second.
On Tuesday, Dec. 1, Council President Adrienne Fraley-Monillas had proposed that the ordinance be passed.
The motion died despite a last-minute plea from Nelson in a letter to the editor sent to media (www.bit.ly/2I1lUmw).
