COVID testing available in Snohomish County

Series: Coronavirus | Story 299

Last updated 11/9/2020 at 9:16am

As COVID-19's uptick outdoes Snohomish County stats this spring, it is important to remember testing is available. Testing is useful because it can help individuals and households decide whether to quarantine, to stem further spread.

And, the usual advice persists: mask up, wash up, stay distant, avoid large gatherings, and outside is safer than inside.

Health officials have warned since the pandemic began that an overwhelming level of cases could overwhelm hospitals to levels that limit care for other emergencies such as heart attacks, car wrecks, and other urgent medical issues.

Additional concerns circle around vulnerable populations who can become seriously ill, such as those with heart disease, lung disease and conditions that suppress the immune system, such as diabetes. Those underlying illnesses increase the risk of dangerous illness from COVID-19. Dangerous illness can lead to hospitalization or death.

Most of those infected with COVID-19 still recover at home, with standard supportive care such as rest, fluids, and good nutrition. If a case of mild COVID-19 occurs, health officials still advise quarantine to avoid spreading the illness.

For COVID testing: Call ahead

Flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, or shortness of breath may be COVID-19, or may be the flu, or another illness. Do not arrive unannounced at any care sites due to symptoms, as it may further spread the virus to others.

Call in advance, and ask if a test is needed, and where to arrive and what measures to take. Some sites have a separate entrance for COVID-likely patients.
