Pedestrian-only Main Street to return; fountain roundabout will be closed

It has a name: 'Walkable Main Street Pilot Project '

Last weekend's closure of Main Street to vehicle traffic – now called the "Walkable Main Street Pilot Project," will return June 27-28, at the Beacon reported on Facebook Monday.

According to Mayor Mike Nelson, based on feedback, more street sections will close for outdoor dining and walking, and the timeframe will expand.

• In order to provide a safe pedestrian experience around the fountain, Fifth Avenue will also be closed, in addition to Main Street between Third and Sixth avenues.

This is exciting! Love to see this! I hope it works out for us, and that it extends over the weekend of the 4th. Seems like it would be a great opportunity to celebrate in a slightly different--but managed for safety--way with business decorations, perhaps inviting in some of the student and other live music groups, etc.
