Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a unique diagnosis to the late twentieth century. Children are most commonly diagnosed as they move through the education system, when "difficult" behaviors emerge. Since the 1990s, the number of children diagnosed has skyrocketed.
