The Scourge

I hope this scourge is the only thing

We are erasing,

And not the fact that people

Are in the habit of embracing.

I hope this space and this distance,

We were forced to create,

Does not become

A subliminal and lifelong mandate,

Does not have the power to infiltrate

Our sub consciousness,

And then it is too late.

I hope we remember

The finer points of our collective humanity,
