Editor's note: The Beacon doesn't normally publish poetry, but Valerie Watkins of Edmonds sent us this coronavirus-inspired poem she thought readers might enjoy.
I hope this scourge is the only thing
We are erasing,
And not the fact that people
Are in the habit of embracing.
I hope this space and this distance,
We were forced to create,
Does not become
A subliminal and lifelong mandate,
Does not have the power to infiltrate
Our sub consciousness,
And then it is too late.
I hope we remember
The finer points of our collective humanity,
