POSTED APRIL 11
In January, my dad and I went on a trip to China.
We went because my dad had a work trip. He asked if I wanted to come along with him because I am a photographer, like him. He wanted to know if I'd like to take pictures while we were sightseeing.
For a bit of background, my name is Sam. I am 12 years old, and live in Edmonds.
The minute our plane touched down, my Dad got a couple of notifications on his phone about some sort of virus going around. We were not very concerned about it, though, because it didn't seem like too big of a deal to us.
Little did we know that this would end up being THE virus that affected the whole world.
While I was on the trip, I wrote a journal about everything that happened. Now I'm going to share a few entries from my journal with you.
Thursday, Jan 23
Today we went to explore a water town called Xitang, but we learned that it was closed because of the virus, so we went to see if we could get in anyway, but the guards did not let anybody in because of the virus.
Friday Jan 24
Today we headed over to Linhai by train. They checked our temperatures to make sure we were OK in the train station. Then when we checked in at the hotel later that day, they checked us at the front desk, at our room, and at dinner to make sure we didn't have Coronavirus.
Saturday, Jan 25
Today we went to explore with my Dad's friend, we went to a part of the Great Wall of China; the part we went to was called Jiangnan, and it was kind of the prototype for the Great Wall. When we got there, we climbed all the stairs only to learn that it was closed because of the virus. We were very disappointed, but took a couple of pictures and went down to explore the West Lake. When we got down there, we learned that they closed the island on the lake because of the virus.
Sunday Jan 26
Today we were going to check out all the skyscrapers, museums and zoos in Shanghai but we learned that they were all closed because of the virus so we decided to spend the day walking around and exploring Old Shanghai, which was really cool.
