Edmonds-Woodway's Alex Rapelje celebrates winning the 3A 138-pound state title over Prairie's Jason Wilcox at Mat Classic XXXII Saturday, Feb. 22, in the Tacoma Dome.
Edmonds-Woodway's Alex Rapelje was dialed in from the opening seconds of the 3A state 138-pound boys championship match against Prairie's Jason Wilcox.
It was easy to understand why.
A week earlier, Rapelje defeated Wilcox 7-2 in the Region 2 finals, so the Edmonds-Woodway sophomore knew he had a good chance of winning.
Neither wrestler had much of an advantage in the first round, but Wilcox was awarded a point on a technical violation on Rapelje for fleeing the mat as he stumbled out of bounds, escaping a leg hold by the Prairie junior.
The Edmonds-Woodway sophomore quickly tied the score...
