From scratch: Meadowdale graduate finds his niche with baking bread

Cottage at Blue Ridge Bakery owner and baker Conor O'Neil displays his homemade creations at a pop-up stand in Edmonds.

Edmonds has a best-kept secret bakery.

It pops up in plain sight most Saturdays in Perrinville, at Olympic View Drive and 76th Avenue West. It's there where, under two 10-foot-by-10-foot market tents, Conor O'Neill sells his bread, pastries, and cookies from Cottage at Blue Ridge Bakery while taking pleasure in conversations that pop up among customers.

O'Neill, 24, a Meadowdale High School and Washington State University graduate, mills his own rye flour from Skagit Valley whole wheat and adds it to his bread, cookies, and pastries. He leavens his bread with his own proprietary levain, whi...
