A 16-year-old boy from Mountlake Terrace was booked into Denny Juvenile Justice Center in Everett on Monday for second-degree murder following the investigation into the shooting death of 17-year-old Gala Zuehlke in Edmonds on Friday.

Edmonds police detectives worked throughout the weekend and were able to establish probable cause for the suspect’s arrest, Sgt. Josh McClure said.

On Monday, detectives developed information about where the suspect was staying. That had surveillance on an area, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident late Monday morning. Detectives interviewed him before being booked into the youth center.

The investigation began on the afternoon of Nov. 30, when officers responded to the Horizon Park apartments in the 7400 block of 208th Street SW in Edmonds for a reported shooting.

The female victim was found deceased, but officers and detectives received varying degrees of cooperation from those still at the scene.

Technicians from the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab helped police sort through evidence at the scene. The Snohomish County Medical examiner took custody of the victim’s body and determined the death was a homicide.

The office will investigate further before releasing an official cause and manner of death. Detectives are also continuing to investigate and collect additional evidence. The weapon used in the killing has yet to be recovered.

Three other subjects were also detained at the time the primary suspect was apprehended. Investigators interviewed two juvenile males and an adult female, and have charged them with rendering criminal assistance. The charges are being forwarded to the prosecutor for review.

Detectives will continue the investigation and would like to speak with anyone who may have information.
