Patricia Lee Valentine 1946-2021

Posted

Patricia Lee Valentine, 75, of Edmonds passed away on Dec. 28, 2021, from a sudden stroke. She was surrounded, supported, and loved by her immediate family at the time of her death.

Patricia (Patty) was born on Sept. 25, 1946, to Janice and Herb Valentine. She was born a service brat at the Alameda Naval Air Station in Alameda, California.

Patty was known to her family and friends as a bright spark with a passion for serving others. Before retirement, Patty spent her career as a nurse and was involved with the Peace Corp, Doctors Without Borders, American Red Cross, Hospice, and youth summer camps.

She provided medical care for rural communities in multiple countries throughout Africa, such as Ghana, South Africa, and Mozambique.

Patty loved to travel and dig her feet deep into adventure. She spent time in dozens of countries around the world, either serving as a nurse or traveling on her own.

She had a global map in her house with pins of the 20 countries she had traveled. Patty enjoyed driving rural roads, such as Highway 2, on her way to Montana and the North Cascade Mountains. Patty’s favorite season was fall. She enjoyed the color of the changing trees and hiking Blewett Pass under the Tamaracks.

Patty's greatest joy in life was her family. She loved being a grandparent, great-grandparent, and an aunt to all her nieces and nephews. It was not unusual for Patty to log hundreds of miles to watch the grandchildren, nieces, and nephews at soccer games, baseball games, BMX races and other community and school events.

She also made every effort to attend family birthday parties, weddings, baby showers and school graduations. Patty's favorite holidays were Halloween with her grandsons Hayden and Tanner where they spent hours carving creative pumpkin faces, and Thanksgiving in Pasco with the Hazen/Bottenberg crew.

Patty's life was a well-lived life. She always loved fiercely and deeply. We take comfort in knowing she is at peace and surrounded by large, majestic mountains and tall, beautiful trees.

Patty is survived by her daughter Debby Hazen; son-in-law Jim Hazen; son Jace Bottenberg; daughter-in-law Rachelle Bottenberg; five grandchildren and their spouses, Justin Hazen, Liz Hurtado, Matthew Hazen, Emily Hazen, Kris Morton, Hayden Bottenberg, and Tanner Bottenberg; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor Morton and a second granddaughter due in May; siblings Sherry and Bryan Gibb; Jim and Donna Valentine; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at the Unity in Lynnwood on March 12 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity or Free the Oppressed Foundation (Burma).
