An Earth Day event on Sunday, April 26, at 10 a.m. will feature a theme of trees and an Indigenous approach to the environment
as described in Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book, "The Serviceberry."
It will be held at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers St., Edmonds.
The Rev. Laura Baumgartner, guest pastor at Haller Lake United Methodist Church in Seattle and a conference specialist on Creation Care, will present the topic “Reciprocity.”
In collaboration with The Friends of Edmonds Trees (FOET), there will be a tree giveaway after the service, in addition to free copies of the first-ever printed FOET Edmonds Downtown Tree Walk brochure, a digital readout from church solar panels providing 100% of the needed electricity, along with other environmental and tree information.
In addition, there will be a Q&A session in
the chapel with Baumgartner for conversation about the book, the sermons, and Baumgartner's role in preparing the Pacific Northwest Conference’s Creation Care four-week program.
There will also be a coffee hour with snacks from recipes with Pacific Northwest ingredients used by Indigenous peoples prior to the arrival of Europeans.
The community is invited. For questions and additional information, email gaylashoemake@yahoo.com>
