Edmonds/Kingston ferry route closed overnight Oct. 6-7 for railway work

Posted

BNSF will close the railroad crossing at Main Street and Railroad Avenue in Edmonds for track repairs from 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, through 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7.

The closure will block access to the Edmonds ferry terminal, so service to and from Kingston will be suspended.

The last sailings on Tuesday, Oct. 6 will be:

  • 6:10 p.m. from Kingston
  • 7 p.m. from Edmonds

Service is scheduled to resume with the following sailings on Wednesday, Oct. 7:

  • 9:35 a.m. from Kingston
  • 10:20 a.m. from Edmonds

These times depend on the crossing reopening as planned.

BNSF recently notified Washington State Ferries that the work must take place during this time. Options to keep ferry service running were explored, but the crossing closure leaves no safe, practical way to serve the Edmonds terminal during the repairs.

Travel alternatives

Walk-on passengers traveling between Kingston and the Seattle area can consider Kitsap Transit’s Kingston Fast Ferry to downtown Seattle. Other customers should plan to use another ferry route or make other travel arrangements.
