Edmonds softball team: State champions!

Posted
Edmonds' Little League softball team in the Pacific Little League are Washington state Little League champions.

The Pacific Little League 8-10-year-olds won the softball state championship on Thursday, July 17, defeating West Seattle Little League in the championship game 2-1.

This victory capped off a week-long tournament, where teams faced other District Champions across the state, and was hosted by Columbia Little League in Vancouver.  This is the first time a softball team has won state for Pacific Little League in its 60-plus-year history.

On their path to victory at state, the team defeated Gig Harbor Little League (District 2) 5-1; Woodinville Little League (District 8) 3-2; and lost to West Seattle Little League (District 7) 9-1.

The team then battled back through the losers' bracket, defeating Bonney Lake Sumner Little League (District 10) 3-1, and ultimately defeated West Seattle in a rematch in the championship game.

The championship game was streamed locally across the Edmonds community, and watch parties were hosted at local restaurants and bars, including Brigid's Bottle Shop and Just Chill Pub & Bar.

Said head coach Adam Beebe, "This was a Little League group of girls with varying levels of experience who came together in a short period of time to do something special.  That's what community sports are all about.

"I couldn't be more proud of the way this group represented on and off the field for District 1 and Pacific Little League. Sports are not always about wins, losses, and outcomes. The girls grew together, failed together, and succeeded together.  That's something we coaches will always be proud of. "
