A park for all: Civic Center Playfield debuts

Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson holds the ceremonial ribbon as Laila Zimbalist prepares to cut it and officially open Mika's Playground at the new Civic Center Playfield. The inclusive playground was named for Laila's brother, who had cerebral palsy and died in 2019. With Laila is her older sister, Sofia, and parents Efrem and Mumtaz.

Eight years after the City purchased the former Edmonds Tigers football field and track – and after leasing the property for 40 years – hundreds witnessed the dedication of the 8-acre Civic Center Playfield Friday, June 23.
