Posted

On Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, Delbert Owen Johnson, widowed father of four, passed away at the age of 89.

Del was born in Angora, Nebraska, to Walter and Phoebe Johnson. One of six children who spent their childhood in Noxon, Montana, Del joined the U.S. Coast Guard at age 19. On assignment to Detroit in a recruitment office, he met his wife to be, Beverly Rosselle.

They were married in May 1957 and were together until her passing in 1991. Del served nearly 23 years in the Coast Guard, achieving the rank of Master Chief Quartermaster (E-9).

After his retirement in 1975, Del started a career working in construction. He earned an associate degree from Edmonds Community College and briefly ran a construction company with his wife called D & B Construction.

In his "spare" time, he remodeled his home in Edmonds, built a home and duplex for himself in Anacortes, and a home for his daughter in Renton. Del and his family enjoyed camping and traveling around the country.

In retirement even more time was spent traveling around the world with his partner of 25 years, Margaret Johnson, and playing golf.

Del is survived by his four children, Mike, Patricia, Karen and Brian.

If you wish to honor Del's life, please make a donation in his name to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or Hospice Care of Seattle.
