Charlann B. Hale: 1949-2022

Posted

Charlann B. Hale (Charlie), 73, of Lynnwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 19 2022. Services for family and friends will be Feb. 18 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Nile Golf Course Ballroom, 6601 244th St. SW, Mountlake Terrace.

The daughter of Charles Laning and Emma Laning, Charlie was born on May 23, 1949, in Stuttgart, Germany, she was the oldest of eight children. She emigrated to Ellis Island on April 1 1954, and the Laning family made their way to Sacramento, California, before moving to Des Moines/Federal Way in Washington state.

She graduated from Mount Rainier High School and studied at Highline Community College. She worked at Sea-Tac Airport from '68-'72, then moved on to Manhattan Drug as a pharmacist and was a clothing model at Bensons. Her passion for clothing and styling gave her inspiration for her career later in life.

On Aug. 28, 1981, Charlie married Greg Hale in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Charlie and Greg had met at the Windward Inn, an upscale bar he had owned at the time. Following their marriage, they made their home in Lynnwood and welcomed two boys, Blake and Aaron.

Charlie played a tremendous role in their upbringing, being a stay-at-home mother and volunteering time at schools. Charlie was an amazing mother for her boys. A talented and life-long learner, she eagerly helped her sons throughout their education and came to the rescue of Blake when the art projects proved challenging.

She was a phenomenal chef and fastidious when it came to keeping their beautiful home tidy and a place for friends and family to gather. In recent years, she leaned into her passion for women's fashion, owning and operating Charlie Ann's Consignments (2011-2019).

Her store was known for upscale women's clothing, where she had a flair for fashion design. Her love for business and people showed each day in Charlie Ann's. In 2019, Charlie became diagnosed with MSA-P, a very rare neurological condition.

She always kept her vivacious, positive attitude – her deep love for life and her family always shining through. Her grandchildren quickly became the ultimate joy in her life, always bringing a smile to her face when they cuddle, whether in her favorite chair or blowing kisses to her on Facetime.

They will definitely miss their "Omie."

Charlie is survived by siblings Lois (Ty) Chappell, Suzanne (Rick) Obst, Belinda (Wayne) Evans, Sonny (Monica) Laning, Heidi (Mike) Smith, and Richard (Tricia) Laning; her children Blake (Stayce) Hale, Ellensburg, and Aaron (Sarah) Hale, Everett; grandchildren Teghan, Taylor, Noah and newborn Ethan; and her husband of 41 years, Greg Hale.
