Former Police Chief Al Compaan is Citizen of the Year

Al Compaan is the Citizen of the Year.

Former Edmonds Police Chief Al Compaan retired at the end of 2019. But he didn't hop on the next flight from Sea-Tac to see the world. The pandemic took care of that.

Instead, Compaan continued to stay active in police issues, which he no doubt would have done, pandemic-canceling trips or not.

In addition to serving on the boards of Victim Support Services and the Behind the Badge Foundation, Compaan was among the many voices lobbying Gov. Jay Inslee and the Legislature to reverse controversial laws they felt hindered police responses.
