Housing moratorium extended by 2 weeks

The proposed 24-unit apartment building would displace six businesses on the north side of Main and Sixth. It would have no businesses on the ground floor.

The City Council on Tuesday agreed to extend the emergency moratorium on downtown building permit applications by two weeks.

A two-month moratorium had been approved Feb. 15 that applied to project that are not subject to the City's street-front standards.

During a public meeting, the majority of residents spoke out against the permitting of a 24-unit apartment building at Sixth Avenue North and Main Street, which is in the downtown mixed-commercial use (BD2) zone.
