Emergency adoption targets known violent offenders

Edmonds City Councilmember unanimously approved an emergency adoption of a change to the Edmonds’ extreme risk protection statute. That means those violating the statute can now be charged in Edmonds Municipal Court.
“An extreme risk protection order is another tool that can be put in place by the court to protect the public,” said Acting Assistant Police Chief Shane Hawley.
“These orders prohibit someone who has already demonstrated a propensity for violence or threatened violence to temporarily have their ability to possess firearms – or other dangerous weapons – removed.
