Tsunami advisory draws the curious to Edmonds beaches

Tsunami watchers gathered on the Sunset Avenue bluff to watch the action, what little there was of it
Edmonds has a new tsunami warning system in the Olympic Beach parking lot on Dayton Avenue West, and it wasn't needed Saturday, Jan. 15. But a rare tsunami advisory did prompt the City to close all beaches and piers for public safety.
Residents and visitors were advised to stay off beaches after 9 a.m., and Edmonds police were on hand with megaphones to scoot people away.
There were plenty of lookie-loos safely perched on the bluff above the beach on Sunset Avenue.
The advisory was lifted shortly after 5:30 p.m.
The initial advisory from the City was sent at 9:18 a.m.
