Solar power: It's possible, and it's powerful

A $150K grant program is the latest incentive from the City of Edmonds

Lance Horton had solar panels installed on the roof of his home in October. "The money you save by not buying electricity from power companies will only increase as time goes on," he said.

Some homeowners – including those in Edmonds – have discovered in the past that the benefits and incentives for installing costly solar panels have been mostly geared towards commercial property installations rather than residential homes.

That's true, but it's changing.

"In the last eight or nine years, Edmonds has worked hard to encourage the installation of solar, especially in residential applications," said Leif Bjorback, a building official with Edmonds' Development Services Department.
