Mayor calls for overhaul of City's snow response plan

Downtown Edmonds on Dec. 26. Main Street is one of the city's main arterials that is first plowed.

The first snow of winter Dec. 26 brought treacherous driving conditions and some delays on the roads.

But it also brought a chance for some great pictures.

Although there were complaints, the City's street and storm manager, Tod Moles, said last week that the street maintenance group was in its "standard operating procedure."

That involved plowing, sanding – with a salt and sand mixture – and other measures in a round-the-clock rotation of 12-hour shift with City snowplows, sanding trucks, and other incident response and assist vehicles.

That's not good enough for Mayor Mike Nelson.
