Will Chen among councilmembers wanting to cut streatery fee in half

The streatery at Engel's Pub on Fifth Avenue South in Edmonds.

Edmonds City Council President Susan Paine and three councilmembers – Will Chen, Laura Johnson, and Adrienne Fraley Monillas – want to amend the recently adopted ordinance extending streateries, which allows for downtown restaurants to operate in the public right of way.

Currently, 17 restaurants have streateries taking up 34 parking spaces.

The proposed changes include:

• Changing the streatery fee from $4,000 to $2,000,

• Allowing the fee to be paid in monthly installments, and

• Extending the streatery permit to expire May 31, 2022.
