'Bawdy Ballads': Edmonds songwriter releases ukulele songbook

Born in a music store, Rachel Gardner fills her life with music

Rachel Gardner: "Once a song has been written, it feels like I can let go of whatever emotion was driving that particular song."

A couple of years ago, Edmonds resident Rachel Gardner started a three-person ukulele band with two other women she met in Edmonds.

"We were booking some gigs," she said, "but some places wanted bands that only played originals. We started writing our own music for shows, and I found that when everything shut down due to the pandemic, I had a lot to get out."

The result is "Bawdy Ballads and Salty Songs for the Ukulele," which includes 25 original songs and was released Nov. 10 on Gardner's Treachery imprint.

You Rachel Gardner are a delight! I loved every word. Just Wow. I hope to see you play in the future. I was given a violin a couple years ago. I too adore music but I do not play. I am going to try some lessons when I feel ready. I am going to buy that book, from our local bookstore. I like it that you did that very selfless of you! I admire that. And If I can't figure out how play it I am going to take lessons. Beautiful story, beautiful words and you sure look like an awesome person to me. Deb XO
