What do quiet Edmonds and the steamy climes of Africa enjoy in common?
An avid reader, she escaped her sleepy Ballard childhood through books. She fueled her vivid imagination with stories of faraway places that seemed more exciting and different than the Pacific Northwest.
Africa, in particular, became a regular destination in her dreams after reading Beryl Markham's "West with the Night." But it wasn't until quite a bit later in life that she was able to pursue that dream.
And then it was with vigor.
