Edmonds School District teacher shortlisted for $1 million prize

Jennie Warmouth: "If selected, I will use the funds to create an empathy-focused learning lab academy for teachers, students, and families in our community."

Jennie Warmouth, a second grade teacher at Spruce Elementary in Lynnwood, has been included in the top 50 shortlist for the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2021 in partnership with UNESCO. Now in its seventh year, the $1 million prize is the largest prize of its kind.

Warmoth was selected from over 8,000 nominations and applications from 121 countries around the world.

The Beacon has written about Warmouth in the past. She actually attended Spruce Elementary as a child herself, and graduated from Meadowdale High School. She now lives in Capitol Hill.
