Is Dayton Street safe? Neighbors say no; City says studies don't support that view

Members of the Dayton Street Safety Group want the City to listen to the demands for better safety measures on their street.

Is it time to rethink Dayton Street?

A group of more than 25 Dayton Street residents maintains that speeders and large trucks endanger the lives of children entering and exiting Main Street Kids and Montessori preschool on the south side of Frances Anderson Center.

They've told the City – in change petitions, emails, council meetings, and even face-to-face – that something must be done to the arterial between Seventh and Ninth avenues south.

The City – which owns and operates the Anderson Center – of course agrees that children need to be protected.

And it claims it has taken steps...
