Appreciation: Straight talk to fathers is George Murray's legacy

Each fall and spring for the past nine years, George Murray invited me and two Scriber Lake High School writers to the Kiwanis' Tuesday meetings at the Pancake Haus in Edmonds. He welcomed our students like ambassadors each time, encouraging them to order anything they wanted off the menu. He told those who ordered pancakes to "get the big stack."
Stories were read after brunch and business, and George always followed with comments and questions. He would highlight unique resiliencies, encourage talents, and ask about future dreams. At one meeting George led the club in a request for a writ...
