The City of Edmonds has initiated the process to update the Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) plan. This is good news.
The Edmonds parks system does not meet the national standards for the number of parks or the acres of parks serving its citizens. Edmonds has a total of 189 acres of parks, according to the last PROS plan. The national median for cities our size is over 400 acres, according to the National Recreation and Parks Association.
There are large areas that are not within walking distance to a park. Many of these areas are where the lowest income levels and highest diversity...
