From 2020: Crosses at Edmonds Memorial Cemetery on Memorial Day.

In 1982, 39 years ago, Edmonds citizens gathered at the Edmonds Memorial Cemetery to observe Memorial Day.

But unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as in 2020, given the risk to citizens and following state safety guidelines, it was decided not to hold a traditional Memorial Day ceremony this year. However, after much consideration, the board of directors of the cemetery and the City of Edmonds will be holding a drive-thru-only Memorial Day event.

It will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Memorial Day, May 31.

Those interested in participating are welcome to come to the cemetery 100th Avenue West and 15th Street SW in Westgate. The only entrance for this drive-thru Memorial Day event will be the 15th street entrance at the north end of the cemetery.

All vehicles will exit on the east side, or 100th Avenue side.

There will be programs handed out, as well as red poppies to all who participate. If you would like to visit the graves of family or friends on May 31st, please come.

The Cemetery board requests that if you do plan to visit the graves and want to stay to walk through the cemetery, please come before 10 a.m. or after 1 p.m. on Memorial Day.

The cemetery is open year-round.

Jerry Janacek is chairman of the Edmonds Memorial Cemetery and Columbarium.
