The corner of Sixth Avenue South and Main Street continues to hum with construction as Mike McMurray's vision for Main Street Commons takes shape.

That vision: A refuge from urban distractions where people can relax in an outdoor, serene setting. Live music, an "Artist Alley," and six additions to the downtown Edmonds core.

"The first phase of renovation, including the existing Thriftway building and plaza, is 30% completed to date," McMurray said. He estimates completion by mid- to late October.

Most visible now is the partial tear-down of the old Thriftway – recently home to Ombu Salon...
