Come to a complete stop: Fifth and Main could get safer

City crews painted new signage, and added rumble strips, to improve safety at the four-way stop at the fountain.

The intersection of Fifth and Main, the unofficial center of Edmonds' universe, is a traffic circle with four stop signs on its approaches.

It's a traffic circle, but as residents know, it's frequently treated as a roundabout, where incoming traffic yields to traffic on the left, the correct way to approach the Five Corners roundabout up the hill.

But there are those – we love our money-spending tourists, but we're looking at you – who barrel blissfully around the traffic circle without stopping.

(To be fair, most – even locals – practice the fine art of California stops even thoug...
