Mama bird takes over petanque court in Edmonds

It's a pretty cool sight right in the heart of Edmonds, but don't get too close. You'll get an earful of angry chirping – after all, it's a mother protecting her eggs.
A couple of days ago, petanque regulars at Civic Field noticed a nesting pair of killdeer had laid a clutch of eggs immediately adjacent to Court 3, right under the chain link fence on Sixth Avenue North.
"The adults are very protective of their eggs, and go through their warning behaviors whenever a person approaches," said Jack McHenry, a longtime member of the club.
