Some normalcy is returning.
Second graders in the Edmonds School District resumed in-person learning on Monday, March 22, while kindergartners and first graders will resume in-person learning Monday, March 29.
"I am pleased to inform you that our Edmonds School District board of directors unanimously passed the memorandum of understanding between the district and the Edmonds Education Association," said Superintendent Gustavo Balderas.
It was officially announced at the district school board meeting March 23.
"This officially allows us to continue with the incredibly huge lift to get our students back into our buildings," Balderas said.
In addition, the district and the union reached an agreement on return to grades 3-6 April 12 and grades 7-12 April 19. Secondary students will be divided into three cohorts.
The agreements allow the district to meet the governor's emergency proclamation to offer in-person learning to all students by mid-April.
The governor's order means students wanting to opt for in-person learning must be provided with the opportunity. School districts must offer a minimum of 30% of students two in-person learning days.
Students and staff must complete a health check each morning to attest they have no symptoms of COVID-19 or contacts with people who have tested positive for COVID-19.
In addition, students and staff will be required to wear masks and wash or sanitize hands upon entering the building and will be asked to wash and/or sanitize hands frequently throughout the day.
