You may have noticed something is missing on the beach, as the pilings holding up the 600-pound anchor to the entrance to Brackett's Landing North Park were rotten and removed Feb. 25.

Also removed was the 34-foot-long railroad rail stamped "Lackawanna Company 1912."

According to Shannon Burley, Parks and Recreation deputy director, the parking lot was closed for seven hours while the work took place.

The Parks Department will begin the work to reinstall the anchor using new piling in the fall, which will include a sunning cormorant.
