"Rooftops, Looking East"

When sketching Edmonds, the inclination is to look west to the mountains and the sea. There's no doubt the natural beauty looking west is beautiful. However, there is a very unique culture in Edmonds that's tucked in under our noses.

I have had two opportunities to live in downtown Edmonds, and enjoy the secret life of the alleys.

This is the view from the third-floor above Cole Gallery looking east.

I love rooftop scenes, whether it's Paris or Edmonds. The trick is to try to simplify the cacophonous imagery of the external workings of both the buildings and the city.
