On Feb. 13, 2021, John Lawrence Hjort, loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor to many, passed away at age 83. John was born on Dec. 16, 1937, in Redmond to Dan and Mary Hjort.
Growing up, John fished with his father, a commercial fisherman. After graduating from Lake Washington High School, he joined the Coast Guard. He met his wife, Barbara Joyce Brown, and they married on Feb. 27, 1960. They raised four sons, Eric, Chris, Kurt, and Dane.
John was a community leader in Snohomish County and owner of H&H Homes. He built over 1,000 homes and multiple apartment and commercial buildings.
John had a passion for the outdoors. He formed lifelong friendships through fishing, hunting, and camping.
He was known for his kind and compassionate spirit of giving and helping others. He so loved his grandchildren and watching their accomplishments in school activities, talent shows and sporting events.
John was preceded in death by his father, Dan, and his mother, Mary, brother George and his grandson, Ryan. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his four children, Eric (Michelle), Chris, Kurt (Silvania), and Dane; and grandchildren Jacob, Daniel, Evan and Kelly.
Due to COVID and limited restrictions, a private funeral service will be held. The family will have a celebration of life, TBD, when we can all safely gather and celebrate together what John has meant to us all.
