Jan. 20, 2021, was quite a day. It was a bad day for Jim Crow, billionaire heirs, the coronavirus, and carnage in general. It was a good day for polar bears, civil liberties, my European friends (who've been lifting my spirits even higher with happy emails), and Amanda Gorman – the 22-year-old poet who inspired us all, but particularly a nation of young girls of color.
And it was a day that filled me with joy and hope.
