Confederate flags were carried through the halls of Congress this week – not even during the Civil War did that racist flag reach the Capitol. A small memorial to the late Congressman John Lewis was destroyed. Doors were smashed. Pipe bombs were hidden.
Five people died, and many more seriously injured, including police and civilians alike. Damage was inflicted, literally and figuratively, to the American institution that houses our elected representatives.
