Franklin passed peacefully in his home on the evening of Dec. 13, 2020. He was born in Fresno, California, where he spent his childhood with his family on a vineyard in Madera.
Like his mother, he enjoyed playing piano and organ. His love for and study of music continued throughout his life. He attended UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, and Fresno State, focusing on linguistics. He served in the United States Air Force and later received his doctorate in education at Claremont Graduate University.
He worked for Washington state, where he retired while living in Olympia. Following retirement, Franklin continued to follow his passion of learning by taking up welding, studying languages, and always reading. In more recent years, Franklin and his wife, Donna, lived in Edmonds to be close to their grandchildren, who called him Poppy.
One of Franklin's last wishes was to return to the ocean, where he had many happy memories, especially from his summers in Santa Cruz with his grandparents. He was a very dedicated husband, father and grandfather and will be missed greatly.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; his daughter, Gretchen; his son-in-law, John; and his grandsons, Kohl and Max.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made in his name to the Edmonds Food Bank or the Sierra Club.
