A small group of protestors – not affiliated with the online petition – called for Mayor Mike Nelson's resignation while gathering in Westgate shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31. The rally was scheduled to run until 5 p.m.

A citizens' petition created by Rebecca Anderson and Rod Schick is asking Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson to resign.

Drop the Mike has more than 160 signatures as of noon Dec. 31.

Schick said the petition is not a legal action.

From the petition: "You have jeopardized our safety. You put politics over protection. You have practiced secrecy over transparency. You have ignored facts and the desires of those you serve. We want a mayor who is value-driven, possesses a strong moral compass, has integrity, empathy, commitment to transparency and communication, listens to those he serves, is humble, self-disciplined, and accepts responsibility.

"You have violated the public's trust. You let us down when you failed to hire the most qualified candidate to serve as our next Chief of Police and we have lost faith in you as our Mayor. We ask that you demonstrate your love for this city, and those who live here and do the right thing by resigning immediately so we can heal as a community and come together to protect and improve this precious corner of the country."

Among those who have signed the petition are Dave Teitzel, Carl Zapora, Maggie Fimia, Michael Schindler, Cheryl Foster, Marni Muir, Finis Tupper, Bob Rinehart, Ron Clyborne, Fred Gouge, Donna Neff, Steve Pennington, Kaylin Hardwick, and Carl Lovgren.

Also: Michael D. Meeks, Margaret Mesaros, Heather Moynihan, John J. Hoag DDS, and Jean Sittauer.
