Dr. George Diaz of Edmonds receives his COVID-19 vaccine from Omar Jome, a registered nurse at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

Dr. George Diaz, the Edmonds resident who treated the nation's first coronavirus patient, received his COVID-19 vaccination Dec. 18 at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, where he is section chief of Infectious diseases.

The Beacon profiled Diaz in July.

"We believe that the vaccine is safe and we encourage the entire public to receive it once it's available," said Diaz, who was among the first healthcare providers in the county to be vaccinated.
