In a surprising move – at least to those who aren't entrenched at City Hall – Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson today, Dec. 3, selected the police chief for the Sauk-Suiattle Native American tribe to head the police department instead a candidate with a long history of service to Edmonds.
Nelson's choice is Sherman Pruitt. Jim Lawless, the other candidate, had been acting police chief since January after the retirement of Al Compaan.
