Increasing COVID cases could delay return to school

At a community forum held on Zoom and YouTube Oct. 12, Edmonds School District Superintendent Gustavo Balderas and other administrators said a return to school could be paused as COVID-19 cases increase in Snohomish County.

Earlier that day, just after 2 p.m., the district received a Snohomish Health District update spelling out a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases: 72 per 100,000 people.

Snohomish County is in Phase 2 of Gov. Jay Inslee’s Safe Start plan, and needs to have 25 cases or fewer per 100,000 to move to Stage 3.
