The city of Edmonds' annual budget process consists of back-and-forth discussions heavy on numbers, individual priorities, give-and-take concessions and countless hours of work.
In Edmonds, the 2021 budget process began in late spring and kicked off its public airing Oct. 5 when Mayor Mike Nelson addressed councilmembers and the public with his preliminary budget message.
The process will conclude with a state-mandated approval by the end of year by the council. The city's 2020 budget came in at $130 million, an increase from $109 million in 2019 and $92.4 million in 2018.
