You learned the numbers early, we hope: First, Second, Third, Ninth, 92nd, 220th ...

But there's one street in Edmonds, one that's actually a Way, where consensus is hard to nail down.

Until now.

That's Bowdoin Way.

I live off Bowdoin, and once pronounced it "Ba-doyn" to my visiting brother from the East Coast. He laughed. "You mean 'Bow-din," he said, referencing the liberal arts college somewhere up and over in Maine.

Had I been saying it wrong for the past 20 years? I turned to the experts...
